Sandy Springs is an affluent suburb very convenient and just north of Atlanta and is served by two major limited-access highways, Georgia 400 which runs north-south and Interstate 285 which runs east-west. It is home to the headquarters of more Fortune 500 companies than anywhere in Georgia.
Sandy Springs has made significant improvements in road conditions and traffic signals, and their public works department readily responds to repairs and service. The city is involved in keeping clean and maintaining the area, adding sidewalks, walking trails and greenspace to improve connectivity in the city. In 2006, the city purchased 11 parks and greenspace areas from the county.
The neighborhood districts in Sandy Springs are known as Downtown Sandy Springs (Hammond), Riverside, Perimeter Center, Dunwoody Panhandle, North Springs and Sandy Springs (inside the perimeter).
